Mark's Full Obituary

Mark Albert Ideus

Born May 23, 1951 in Houston, Texas, Mark passed away quietly at his home surrounded by family on October 25, 2015 after a 12 1/2 year battle with kidney cancer.

Mark graduated from Waltrip High School and attended the University of Houston receiving his certification in Operations Management.  He started his career at Dresser Industries in 1969 and took medical retirement in 2005.  He worked his way up from the assembly line to various manufacturing management positions.  Taking care of his employees was important to Mark until his retirement.

Mark was a lifetime member of the Oaks Dads Club Little League starting as a coach of his son Jeff’s t-ball and flag football teams.  He served three terms as President.

Mark loved high school football and football officiating and served many terms as Treasurer, Vice-President and President of the Texas Association of Sports Officials.  Even when he was no longer able to work on a crew himself, he still volunteered countless hours doing crew evaluations.  In 2008 he was awarded a lifetime membership at the TASO convention.

In 2006, Mark received the Distinguished Service Award from the Greater Houston Football Coaches Association for his 33 year contribution to Texas High School football.

Volunteering was something Mark really enjoyed.  He was a member of the Touchdown Club and enjoyed attending their events.  He was twice honored by that organization.  He volunteered with the Texas Bowl and in 2013 was awarded the Chairman’s Award for Coaches and Player Hospitality.

Mark was also an avid Houston Texans fan and was a proud charter PSL owner and season ticket holder. He rarely missed a home game.  He was proud to appear in a Houston Texans commercial on his Harley.

Mark spent countless hours volunteering with CanCare, an organization that provides emotional support, practical advice and resources to cancer patients.  He provided hope and support to 36 cancer patients, while fighting his own battle with cancer.

He was an excellent speaker and spoke at Relay for Life events and Methodist Cancer Survivor events as well as corporate wellness events, moving the audience with his resilient story.

He was also a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock show and Rodeo. Right after his retirement, he used his management skills to help out at the Friendship Center Senior Services of Montgomery County.

He joined Big Brothers Big Sisters of Houston and was excited when he was assigned his “little brother”.  He loved introducing him to many incredible sports experiences.

Mark loved music and had an extensive record collection.  He played drums in several garage bands in the 60’s.  He also liked acting as a DJ at family and company functions.  He shared this love of music with his nephew and nieces.

Mark leaves behind his fiancée, Misty Dryden, who took such loving care of him these past few years; his mother, Patsy Ideus Green and stepfather Joe; son Jeff Ideus, daughter-in-law Randi and beloved granddaughter Alyssa; his sisters Vickie Ballard and Christie Mah and husband Chester; and countless other family and friends.

Mark and his family will be forever grateful to Dr. Anna Belcheva and her staff for their refusal to give up on him.  We appreciate the loving care he received from them.
